Bass Runs: Key of A minor, 3/4 time
"Cod Liver Oil", p. 54
General:
And finally, we wrap up the
key of A minor with this last song in 3/4 time. Yes, it's a pretty weird
song about some woman who gets addicted
to cod liver oil, I can't figure it out! It must have some hidden meaning,
I'm sure "cod liver oil" is a code for something else, I don't even want to
think about it!
Anyway, notice the interesting harmonic
quality of the song in that it uses a G natural throughout (so the V chord
is E minor, not E major as in the last song). But, the F# is used in the
bass runs.
On the C to Dm change, you can do it with
support or without (see GuitarPrinciples Path Level One: Chords & Rhythm.)
If you use support, place the second finger into position first for the D
minor chord.
In any case, I recommend you use the 4th
finger for the D minor chord, on the 2nd string. With practice, it will feel
very easy, and has many advantages over using the 3rd finger (it keeps 3
available for bass notes).
Here are midis of the song. Use each speed to
listen, learn, and finally play along with both melody and chords.
And think twice before you try that cod liver
oil! Oooh, nasty stuff!
